Abstract

A private junior high school (SMP) in Sidoarjo is currently in the initial stages of implementing the Adiwiyata environmental education program. At this early phase, waste management has emerged as the primary challenge. This study aims to analyze the application of the Environmental Management System (EMS) based on ISO 14001:2015 in the school's waste management practices. A qualitative approach was employed, utilizing observation, interviews, and questionnaires as data collection methods. The results indicate that the implementation of the EMS has begun with the formation of an internal organization called the “Green Ninja Team.” However, several aspects still require improvement, particularly in documentation, strategic planning, and performance evaluation. The school's readiness level, based on questionnaire results, reached 79%, indicating that the school is generally well-prepared to adopt ISO 14001:2015 more comprehensively. This study recommends that the school develop a written environmental policy, conduct training sessions, and establish standard operating procedures for waste management.
