Abstract

Paddy shell as one of agriculture solid waste, which is found much in rural district of Munggugebang, district of Benjeng, Gresik Regency, East Java. The paddy shell is dumping and then is burning unlessly. This experiment purpose was changing paddy shell into biocarbon briquette, which the carbonization using simple furnace and steel vessel. Wood used as raw of combustion. Carbons were made by variating their carbonization final temperature (250oC, 300oC and 350oC) and their contact time in final temperature of carbonization (10, 20 and 40 minuts). The heating value of carbon was tested with bom calorimetry. Carbon with the highest heating value, was compacted with variated of  compacted pressure (5, 10 dan 20 kg/cm2), and carbon was tested its density, water content, ash content and combustion efficiency. The experiment results showed that the highest heating value was only about 3.325,69 cal/grs, from 350oC of temperature and 40 minuts of contact time. Amount of wood were required to reach that temperature around 13,73 kgs. The highest compacted pressure obtain density, water content and combustion effisiency were 0,737 gr/cm3, 10,96% and 40,83 minutes respectively.
