Abstract

This research performed a combined process using membrane filtration and addition of 1 % PAC (Poly Aluminium Chloride) coagulant to reduce color of synthetic Remazol Turqoise Blue G Reactive dye. The process variation conducted in this research were membrane filtration without pretreatment, membrane filtration using flash mix, slow mix and sedimentation as pretreatment. Variation operating pressure was 0,25 kg/cm2, 0,50 kg/cm2, 0,75 kg/cm2, 1,00 kg/cm2. Dead-end membrane reactor was utilized and run for 5 hours with sampling period every 15 minutes. Measured parameters were the efficiency of color removal and membrane flux. The best flux obtained was 2063,17 L/m2/hour for process I. Other results were 596,91 L/m2/hour for process II, and 1564,02 L/m2/hour for process III. The best efficiency of color removal was reached at 0,50 kg/cm2 of operating pressure for all process which mentioned as follow in rows 27,79 %, 99,84 % and 98,48 %.
