Abstract

This research was using domestic waste from effluent of Sewage Treatment Plant (IPLT) Keputih. Variations of the plant for this experiment were spinach (Amaranthus tricolor) and grass (Axonopus compressus). The results of the research conclude the efficiency of waste water concentration removal for upflow and downflow type respectively. BOD5 concentration removal efficiency are ranged 75,38 – 96,60 % for upflow and 71,86 – 91,71 % for downflow. Total N removal are 69,85 – 95,64 % and 42,02 – 90,20 % for upflow and downflow respectively, while total P removal are 87,84 – 96,72 % for upflow and 83,92 – 91,78 % for downflow. Comparison between types of flow in waste water concentration removal reveals that upflow reactor with Axonopus compressus is the most effective design criteria for domestic waste water treatment.
