Abstract

In disinfection process, the presence of organic aromatic and unsaturated organic can produce Disinfection by Products (DBPs). The aims of these research is to determine the removal efficiency of those organic substances by ozonation and ozonation plus filtration. Samples were taken from Situ Ciburuy. The study was conducted in a batch laboratory scale with ozonitation contact time of 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 minutes. Ozone contactor volume is 1.5 liter. Two variations of filter were used, the first filter using GAC as high as 25cm, while the second variation using only 15 cm. The method used to measure the concentration of residual ozone is the Indigo Colorimetric, and to measure the organic  used the absorption of UV radiation with a wavelength of 254 nm. The result of this research shows, removal efficiency of organic aromatic dependent to CT. The best performance was showed by ozonation process followed by filtration with first variation, where organic aromatic removal as high as 86.31%.
