Abstract

One of the methods to treat water containing Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonate (LAS) and ammonia compounds is by advanced oxidation process and membrane filtration. These advanced oxidation process utilizing the presence of hydroxyl radicals which is a strong oxidant that can destroy the organic and inorganic compounds are toxic and difficult to break down in the water. From this research, it was found that advanced oxidation process and membrane filtration effective to remove Linear LAS, but uneffective to remove ammonia in the water. The total removal of linear alkyl benzene sulfonate was about 89,82 %; 84,20% and 81,49% for the initial concentration of 30 mg/L, 50 mg/L and 100 mg/L, respectively and 17,07% for ammonia.
